I am taking a Virtual High School course designed for teachers. This week my instructors have introduced me to the blogosphere and I am getting hooked on the idea of using blogs as one of the many tools I have as a teacher of English.
I am looking forward to using blogs this coming year. I plan to create a blog that contains my course outlines, schedules, and other pertinent documents. I will keep homework assignments on my blog and try to figure out a way for students to submit written work to my blog. I will use the blog as an additional feature of my classes, a feature that I hope will spark some extra enthusiasm among my students.
Right now I don’t have a clue as to how to do any of this. My assumption is that at the end of this BP course I will have a clue. You’ve got me interested, so now show me how to do it. I’m all ears.
We have been informed of all the perils inherent in using blogs in our classrooms, but I think these perils can be dealt with and overcome if we train our students in the appropriate use of this technology. I have confidence that my students will behave well and benefit from the introduction of blogs in my classroom.
On a lighter note, I may have coined a new term although I have a sneaking suspicion that someone has beat me to the punch. The term is bloggledygook. The term describes much of the language appearing on blogs, language filled with jargon, self-promotion, and boring chunks of palaver, much like the piece I just wrote above.
I can hardly wait for our Week Three assignments.
